Rough Diamonds

Sunday, September 05, 2010

Rough Diamonds is Don Milne and Imogen Coxhead.

Imogen has been singing round the folk circuit for some years now, both
unaccompanied and with a variety of instrumentalists and vocalists. She is perhaps
best known for her part in the long-standing duo Peninsula Envy. In the last few years
she has managed to accompany herself on the mountain dulcimer against all odds
(like having ten thumbs for example).

Back in 1965 Don broke his piano teacher’s heart when he told her he was taking
up the Banjo. He’s still learning.... and will demonstrate his latest attempts to play
the “Old Time’ way on the fretless and the newfangled fretted banjo, a few old tunes,
a few old songs...

Don and Imogen have been playing as Rough Diamonds for about four years,
presenting old time mountain music and singing their favourite songs, and playing
instrumentals on the dulcimer and five-string banjo. Like all diamonds they have
bright sides and dark. For this performance they will have some surprise guests and
will be playing some songs from Charlie Poole’s Band from the 1930s, Carter Family,
as well as some old-time tunes and songs.

Floor performers welcome this evening.

St Martin's Hall, Northumberland Street, North East Valley $5/$3
Tea coffee and light refreshments are served during the interval.
